This project is the cooperation between Stock Market of Thailand and five universities: Mae Fah Luang University, Ubon Ratchathani University, Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, Thammasat University and Kasetsart University. 

We are proud to be a part of this project that will help developing new social innovators and enterprises in Thailand.

The speaker was Professor Sharmistha Banerjee, Global expert in Social Entrepreneurship, Department of Management Studies, University of Calcutta. Totally 250 students who are interested in social entrepreneurship attended the special talk and discussed with the expert. The main topics were what is social entrepreneurship, difference between social enterprise and commercial enterprise, difference between social entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility, identifying opportunity for social business, examples of Social Enterprises in Myanmar and India.

Social Business Plan Competition Competition 2019 http://www.seasin-eu.org/2019/08/27/social-business-plan-competition-competition-2019/ Tue, 27 Aug 2019 05:47:38 +0000 http://www.seasin-eu.org/?p=2869 TCU SISU conducted “Social Business Plan Competition 2019” on 16th August 2019.  The competition was done for the following purposes:

  • To plan effectively for the development of new business.
  • To deal with the social issues and problems through creation of social business and social innovation.
  • To develop the teamwork and team building skills of the students.
  • To encourage the social entrepreneurial spirit and mindset among the students.

TCU SISU made call for application for this competition on 6th July 2019. As the first step, the students have formed a team consisting of 5 members from different major specializations. Then they submitted their written plan for the social business. These written plans were screened by the board and select the six finalist teams. These teams made oral presentation on their business idea on the final competition day, 16th August 2019. On that day, the judges from stakeholder organizations evaluate the business plans.

In the final competition, team SOUL Nipa Jucice (Shwe Yee Mya, Kay Khaing Thin, Sann Wai Lhyan, Htet Thu Thu Aung, Than Htike Aung) won First Prize, team Sophomore (Kyaw Kyaw Zin, May Thu Maung Kyi, Nyein Chan Aung, Wint Wah Eu, Phyu Than Sin) won second prize, and team Uni Store (Aye Myat Mon, San Thaw Tar Win, Phyo Kay Khaing Nwe, May Yin Win, Phyu Phyu Phone Tint) won third prize. On the closing ceremony, Pro-rector U Oo Tin Thein awarded the first prize, second prize and third prize respectively.

Under this project, the second basic painting and recycle art training workshop was conducted from (8.7.2019) to (12.7.2019). The training workshop was conducted with the following objectives;
– To increase the number of SISU users who are interested in social innovation.
– To increase the alternative income sources for the SISU users.
– To recycle the wasted materials by creating the products in an innovative way.
Totally (28) students from Co-operative University, Thanlyin are participated in the training workshop. During the 5 days of training workshop. Artist Ko Ye lead the workshop to share his knowledge and to practice the students in recycle art. As part of the project, TCU SISU conducted the group based competition for recycle art at the end of the training workshop and prized to three groups who get first, second, and third prize in the competition.

The studio design was developed and previously done by SIX in Myanmar. This studio was conducted as a replication under WP 5 of SEASIN Project in the Uttara Hall of TCU. A total of 42 SISU users (37 students and 5 teachers) were participated in the studio and the participants who attended the workshop by SIX facilitated the studio process. The participants were grouped into six groups and each group discussed and presented the topics on environment, education, youth, governance, public place and health. In the opening of the studio, the Pro-Rector U Oo Tin Thein delivered the orientation speech to the participants. Then, the participants made networking session led by U Thein Than Naing. After that Daw May Lin Aung discussed the concepts on social innovation. In the evening session, each group discussed the social problems and proposed solution to the selected problem.

  • To support the local community development through income generation of students during higher education.
  • To encourage the social entrepreneurial spirit and mindset during higher education.
  • To cascade the the business ideas and technology by students in their respective society and community
    Totally 40 students and teachers from Thanlyin Co-operative University are participated in the training workshop.

  • TCU SISU conducted its fourth replication of Impact connect studio on 25th July 2019. The studio design was developed and previously done by SIX in Myanmar. This studio was conducted as a replication under WP 5 of SEASIN Project in the Uttara Hall of TCU. A total of 39 SISU users (38 students and 1 tutor) were participated in the studio. The participants were grouped into six groups and each group discussed the project ideas for social innovation in six topics. In the opening of the studio, Pro-rector (admin) U Oo Tin Thein delivered the welcoming speech to the participants. Firstly, the introduction session was led by U Thein Tan Naing (Tutor). Then, Associate Professor Daw May Lin Aung (TCU SISU Member) discussed the concepts on social innovation. In the evening session, the six groups presented their issues such as Game Abuse among youth, Uneducated Persons in Rural Area, Water deficit in some areas, Betel-spittle problems, High stress level, lack of rural development. This session was led by U Zaw Htet Paing. The whole process was facilitated by the former participants of the Impact Connect Studio.

    This event is organised by the SOUTHEAST ASIAN SOCIAL INNOVATION NETWORK (SEASIN). The Network has established Social Innovation Support Units in eight universities in Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and Cambodia with support from partner universities in Portugal, Spain and the UK. In addition to the universities, four social innovation partners are also involved in order to ensure relevance and effectiveness at a local level. Each of the Units has been kitted out with a range of equipment, including 3-d printers, virtual reality tools, lathes, computers and software to create makers spaces for both students and external stakeholders to use and develop their projects.

Their first and second replications were conducted on 5th June 2019 and 1st July 2019. A total of 35 participants (21 MBA students, 6 academic staff and 8 stakeholders) were participated in the studio and the participants who attended the workshop by SIX and 1st and 2nd replications facilitated the studio process. The participants were grouped into five groups and each group discussed and selected one issue among three issues and presented the action plan to solve this selected issue.
