On June 28-29 at NUM Social Innovation Lab, we were pleased to serve as the venue host for Wedu’s 2-day workshop on “Women’s Leadership Academy for Women in Tech”. Participants who are mostly students also did a tour inside our lab learning about what we do, our 3D printers and experienced our Virtual Reality.

On June 21, NUM iLab organized a study tour at MOO MOO Farms for a group of NUM-IC foundation year students from Social Entrepreneurship Class. It was an exciting field trip as students were able to understand more on social enterprise, see the facility inside the farm, and learn the process of milk pasteurization.

On May 19-25, NUM Social Innovation Lab sent 4 students from NUM International College to join a SEASIN workshop in Glasgow, Scotland. The workshop is part of the SEASIN’s project to promote social innovation among member universities.

The proliferation of landmines in war-stricken countries is a massive hurdle to sustainable development, as they are often hidden in farmland, paths to schools and other areas of countryside.

Now, Demine Robotics – the product of a Cambodian-Canadian engineering team from the University of Waterloo – has come up with an unmanned excavation robot prototype which makes demining safer and more efficient. They are currently working out of the SISU at the National University of Management in Phnom Penh.

Meet their small, unmanned excavator robot prototype – “Jevit” (meaning life in Khmer). It is blast protected by metal plating and can be used as a platform for multiple detection equipment and robotic manipulators to handle UXOs.

While thus far they’ve been able to make huge progress with very limited resources, prototyping machines isn’t cheap. Every little bit helps them get closer to saving land, limbs and lives.

On April 20, we had a senior executive from Google Asia Pacific fly in from Singapore to speak to our Master’s students in Global Innovation Management at NUM Social Innovation lab. The topic of the presentation was Technology Trends and Innovation at Google.

STEM Tour at Coca Cola Factory

On April 8, NUM Social Innovation Lab organized a study tour for NUM International College students from Year 1 to visit the new Coca Cola Factory inside Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone. It was an exciting experience for the students to learn about the history of Coca Cola and observe the production line. The STEM tour was also awesome, especially the hologram displays.

On April 1, Dr. Jaeil Lee, a Fulbright Professor and Chair of Apparel Design and Merchandising at Seattle Pacific University, had a talk on Business & Design at NUM Social Innovation Lab. She has extensive teaching and industry experience in apparel product development. It was a good opportunity for NUM-IC students to learn about apparel product development and technical design, global apparel merchandising, and social entrepreneurship.
