SIX is co-curating a unique one day conference with Make a Difference Institute in Hong Kong on 13 January. With speakers from across the globe, we will explore the potential of social innovation labs that take us away from our desks, to co-create innovative solutions with and in the community.

The social challenges we are facing nowadays are complex. They can no longer be solved by traditional planning methods and technocratic approaches. Collaborative and bottom-up approaches are being experimented in global cities around the world.

There is a global movement of these social innovation labs emerging. The labs take very different forms in different contexts.. Launched in 2016, The Jockey Club Make a Difference Social Lab is one of the pioneering lab initiatives in Asia. It is Hong Kong’s first community-initiated public services innovation lab. From libraries and parks, to streets and markets, Social Labs provide opportunities for citizens and government officials to conduct collaborative experiments on addressing community needs.

During the Symposium, we will learn more about the Social Lab model, and explore what it means to change the system, from both inside and out in the Asian context. We will also hear from leading international examples of lab practices including the Public Policy Lab in New York City; 27th Region from Paris, and TACSI from Australia, amongst others.

Join us to be part of the rise of these social innovation labs movement in Asia!
