The proliferation of landmines in war-stricken countries is a massive hurdle to sustainable development, as they are often hidden in farmland, paths to schools and other areas of countryside.
Now, Demine Robotics – the product of a Cambodian-Canadian engineering team from the University of Waterloo – has come up with an unmanned excavation robot prototype which makes demining safer and more efficient. They are currently working out of the SISU at the National University of Management in Phnom Penh.
Meet their small, unmanned excavator robot prototype – “Jevit” (meaning life in Khmer). It is blast protected by metal plating and can be used as a platform for multiple detection equipment and robotic manipulators to handle UXOs.
While thus far they’ve been able to make huge progress with very limited resources, prototyping machines isn’t cheap. Every little bit helps them get closer to saving land, limbs and lives.

TCU SISU conducted campaign on environmental cleanliness in the Kyaikkhauk Pagoda Estate near the university. The campaign was led by TCU SISU coordinator Rector Dr. Yi Yi Win and this campaign was conducted for the purpose of increasing the awareness of the importance of environmental cleanliness among the students and contributing to the environmental cleanliness. In the event, the Rector firstly delivered the speech and knowledge on the importance of environment and impact of environment on people life. Then, the garbage collection was made in the Pagoda Estate. Totally, 100 students and TCU SISU users are actively participated in the campaign.
UiTM SISU had its first Social Innovation Studio on the 30th of March 2019. The studio was designed by SIX and it was conducted as a replication of the workshop previously done by SIX. The workshop was done in UiTM SISU office in UiTM-MTDC Technopreneur Centre, UiTM Shah Alam. A total of 8 students participated in this first round of studio which centered around designing possible social innovation ideas in solving problems based on current problems. The studio was successfully done throughout the whole day in enlightening students’ awareness on Social Innovation.
UiTM SISU kicked off the month of April with its second Social Innovation Studio on the 6th of April 2019. Similar as before, the studio was designed by SIX and it was conducted as a replication of the workshop previously done by SIX. The workshop took place in the Faculty of Education, UiTM Puncak Alam. This time around, a total of 9 students had participated in the social innovation studio which centered around designing possible social innovation ideas in solving problems based on current problems. The studio was successfully done throughout the whole day centered on enlightening students’ awareness on Social Innovation.
